Online Graduate–Student Meeting Held by the Department of Food Processing
The online graduate–student meeting organized by the Department of Food Processing at Zile Vocational School was held under the moderation of Department Head Assist. Prof. Dr. Şeyda Öztürk. Attended by approximately 18 students, the event featured a guest graduate food engineer currently working as a Food Catering Services Specialist at the Türk Telekom Istanbul Regional Directorate, who shared professional industry experiences with the students.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that the department's course curriculum is generally adequate and well-aligned with industry needs. Attention was drawn to the importance of students reading scientific articles in their targeted fields of interest and reinforcing theoretical knowledge with practical applications. While laboratory courses were highlighted as critical for building a strong professional foundation, it was noted that diverse career opportunities also exist outside the laboratory in areas such as operations, catering services management, procurement, and field organization.
Additionally, the discussion covered the contributions of the 3+1 workplace education model to practical experience, strategic study methods for the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS), and key criteria to consider when choosing a university. It was stated that students should evaluate academic staff, practical infrastructure, and industry collaborations when making their choices.
The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, underscoring that sustaining graduate–student interaction contributes significantly to ongoing professional development.
